Raya and The Last Dragon follows Raya, a young warrior trying to save her world. In Kumandra a dragon named Sisu once saved everything from evil spirits. But guess what? Those spirits are back and have wrecked the place. Raya goes on a quest to find Sisu, believing she holds the key to saving Kumandra. She meets a bunch of characters, some friends, some foes. Along the way, she learns about trust and unity.

Tuk Tuk
Oh my gosh Tuk Tuk is basically the best non-human sidekick ever — a giant, squishy, armadillo-like cuddle tank that can turn into a rolling fortress at a moment’s notice. He looks like he lives to nap and snack but then will barrel through danger like it’s a hobby, which is both adorable and slightly terrifying. He snores like a tiny whale sometimes (or was that just me?), and also somehow communicates with a single expressive eye roll that says EVERYTHING. Protective to the bone, but also surprisingly picky about who gets to sit on his back — sassy, honest, and utterly loyal.
Boun
Boun is that annoyingly charismatic kid who runs a floating restaurant and somehow has an entire crew of grown-up admirers — tiny boss energy but big heart. He’s equal parts smooth-talker and optimist, always scheming a way to make things work (and occasionally over-promising, classic). Loves a good story, maybe exaggerates his adventures a little, and is shockingly practical for someone who loves fast boats and noodles. Would absolutely invite you to dinner and then charge you in charm.
Chief Benja
Okay, Chief Benja — father figure, diplomat, hero, and secretly the best hugger in the world (no really, canon or not, I’m convinced). Calm and measured, he leads with patience but will step into a fight without drama if it means protecting his people, and also he has this warm laugh that makes bad days bearable. He’s the kind of leader who tells stories and probably hums when he’s thinking, which is something I’ve decided is true. Steadfast and hopeful, but also human — makes mistakes and apologizes, which is why everyone trusts him.
Tong
Tong is my favorite giant softie: huge, muscle-y, intimidating-looking, but with this ridiculous gentle soul and the loudest laugh you’ve ever heard. He fights like a mountain and cooks like it’s an art form (or maybe he just buys everything pre-made? I can never keep track), and he’s annoyingly sentimental about his friends — like, cries-in-his-soup sentimental. He’s a one-man army with a surprisingly tender approach to loyalty; also kind of a goof, very likely to start a fight and then apologize with dumplings.
Dang Hu
Dang Hu is the Fang leader — imposing, regal, absolutely no-nonsense, and kind of the textbook “we do what must be done” ruler. She’s stern and strategic, but there’s this odd, almost maternal edge to the way she commands that makes her scarier because it feels personal, not just political. She wears power like armor (literally), collects eyes for dramatic effect in my head, and occasionally hums war songs when she’s thinking — or maybe that’s just the echo of her boots, hard to say. Ruthless when necessary, but with a tradition-twisted logic that makes her strangely sympathetic if you squint.
Virana
Virana is the cool, efficient right-hand type — sharp, observant, and the kind of person you don’t want to underestimate because she notices everything. She’s pragmatic to the point of bluntness, but somehow has a hidden soft spot (I swear she has a secret stash of sweets or something). Very disciplined and intimidating on the battlefield, but also capable of a rare, dry joke that lands exactly once. Loyal to a fault, and also kind of a mystery-box; she’s all edges and then suddenly this tiny, confusing warmth.
Noi
Noi is the smug, terrifyingly adorable baby con boss and I will die on this hill — tiny, toothless, and somehow running a whole pickpocket crew like it’s a daycare. She smiles and steals your wallet, then giggles and offers you a cookie (which may also be stolen), and I’m simultaneously charmed and slightly traumatized. She’s mute? or just chooses silence like a power move — inconsistent but perfect — and has this blank, blithe confidence that makes adults crumble. Little chaos sprite energy, zero chill, 100% heart.
Sisu
Sisu is the sweetest, goofiest dragon who will ruin you with kindness and sparkle-power, honestly an emotional wreck in the best possible way. She’s ancient and wise-ish but also scatterbrained and prone to dramatic monologues and hair-flipping (dragon hair, obviously), and will guide you with enthusiasm and a bewildering number of feelings. Miraculous and utterly sincere, she believes in everyone even when everyone is terrible, which is both noble and very annoying if you’re trying to be grim. Also, she sings in the shower and cries when someone remembers her name — very relatable, slightly melodramatic.
Namaari
Namaari is the sleek, disciplined warrior with a layered heart — poised, lethal, and carrying a lot of complicated loyalty issues like accessories. She’s the classic rival who might be your enemy today and your uneasy ally tomorrow, and you can see both pride and doubt flickering across her face in the same scene. Fiercely loyal to her people, suspicious of others, and secretly maybe a little soft about honor and promises (don’t tell anyone I said that). Elegant, deadly, and actually quite lonely under that perfect armor — tragic cool-girl energy.
Raya
Raya is stubborn, fierce, and borderline obsessed with fixing what’s broken — not a bad thing, but she absolutely will not take no for an answer, ever. She carries this intense weight of responsibility like it’s a second skin, trained to be a warrior and yet somehow awkward with trust, which makes her both heartbreaking and heroic. She’s brave in a very practical way (plans, pivots, punches), and also has these small, tender moments where she remembers to laugh or pet Tuk Tuk like a normal person. Determined to unite everyone, probably has a secret stash of snacks and feels strangely attached to certain rocks for reasons I can’t fully explain.
