Vada Cavell

Vada is the kind of person who notices the small things—scuffed boots, half-finished letters, the exact wrong kind of weather—and then somehow turns those into plans. She’s stubborn and quietly furious at the world but also absurdly kind, like she’ll steal your map and then leave you a pastry because she felt bad. Has this constant nervous energy but will sit perfectly still for hours plotting the next move; also claims to hate jokes but giggles at the worst puns. She’s the reluctant leader type who remembers everyone’s birthdays (but forgets her own phone charger) and has this weird ritual of folding paper cranes when she can’t sleep.

Mia Reed

Mia feels like a warm flashlight in a dark basement—steady, practical, and faintly miraculous when you need her most. She’s a fixer: mends clothes, bones, and occasionally broken promises, and is fiercely protective in a way that’s almost gruff but honest. Tells very blunt truths and then softens them like butter; also collects tiny vials of perfume and refuses to explain why. Has trauma tucked under her sleeve but also an annoying habit of humming old songs while working, which somehow makes everything less awful.

Quinton Hasland

Quinton is the archetypal grumpy genius—maps everything, hates surprises, and keeps a ridiculous ledger that probably has pages labeled “feelings” (which he denies exist). He’s meticulous and reliable to a fault, can disassemble a radio and a social situation in equal measure, and secretly reads bad romance novels when he thinks no one’s looking. Speaks in dry sarcasm but will risk himself for the dumbest, most lovely reasons; also claims lightning-precision patience yet loses it over spilled tea. He’s the kind of person who bakes terrible cookies to make a point, then eats them all himself.

Nick Feinstein

Nick is the charming, half-broken smooth talker who could sell you a bridge and then pay for your bus ticket when you’re stranded—two sides of the same coin and he flips it constantly. He’s witty, impulsive, and somehow always the first to make a dumb, morale-boosting joke even when the odds are miserable, which is infuriatingly useful. Has a shady past he deflects with trivia and a ridiculous collection of mismatched socks, and he’ll swear he’s reformed but still keeps a lockpick “just in case.” Loyal to the bone, with a soft spot for stray animals and kids, and also absolutely terrible at following rules unless they’re his idea.

Amelia Cavell

Amelia is all sharp edges and bigger-than-life plans—part strategist, part stern aunt, part weary optimist who refuses to give up. She organizes people like they’re chess pieces and will guilt you into the correct moral choice with impeccable timing; also cries at sunsets for reasons she’ll never admit. Extremely principled and sometimes inflexible, yet she hoards silly things like novelty pens and refuses to throw away a single handwritten note. She’s the backbone who keeps the group moving, even if she sometimes forgets to ask for help herself.

Carlos Cavell

Carlos is the loud, hands-on heart of the crew—mechanic, cook, brawler, and accidental therapist on slow nights. He’s endlessly practical (fixes engines with duct tape and stubborn optimism) and absurdly sentimental, keeps an old mixtape in his pocket and tells the worst dad stories at the worst moments. Protective to the point of being overbearing but also embarrassingly tender—will make you a terrible grilled cheese and offer life advice at the same time. He swears he’s terrible with names yet remembers exactly how you like your coffee and the precise way you laugh.
