Welcome to Quiz: Which 'The Gray House' Character Are You

About “The Gray House” in a few words:

The Gray House is a historical drama series set during the American Civil War. Inspired by real events, it follows a network of women in Confederate Richmond who secretly gather intelligence for the Union. At the center is Elizabeth Van Lew and her allies, who run a daring spy operation right under the noses of powerful Confederate leaders. Between coded messages, hidden loyalties, and constant danger, every move could change the course of history.

Meet the characters from The Gray House

Eliza Van Lew

Eliza is this fierce, whisper-of-a-woman spy — sharp as a razor and soft as a moth wing, honestly hard not to be obsessed. She runs that gray house like a chessboard, always three moves ahead, secret rooms, coded letters, and yes she collects teacups with tiny clues tucked inside (she definitely has a favorite one, but don’t ask which). People call her cool and detached but she hoards pressed flowers and writes tender little notes in invisible ink — wildly dramatic for someone who insists she’s just practical. Plain clothes, plain manners, but eyes that hold a dangerous kindness; you can trust her and still be terrified.

Elizabeth Van Lew

Elizabeth is the public, iron-jawed force — organizer, philanthropist, the one who signs the letters that make officials sweat. She runs hospitals and committees and will politely shred your argument into paper confetti while sipping tea (and yes, rumor says she sneaks a cigarette when no one’s looking — scandalous and maybe not true). She’s principled to the bone and sometimes blunts injustice with a look, but also apparently keeps a child’s marble in her pocket because sentimentality is a sneaky thing. You get the impression she is both ruthlessly practical and hopelessly sentimental, knitting during meetings or not depending on who’s telling the story.

Stokely Reeves

Stokely is the brooding, watchful type — soldier-ghost energy but the one who can name every bird at dawn, which is kinda sweet. He stands on the edge of the yard like he remembers battles and birthdays with the same intensity; loyal, gruff, and stubborn as a fence post. Swears like a sailor, has hands like old tree roots, and then scribbles terrible midnight poetry that will absolutely make you laugh/cringe — don’t tell him I said that. He breaks rules for the people he cares about, is inexplicably terrified of spiders, and claims to hate cats though a cat definitely sleeps on his boot sometimes (or was that someone else?).

Mary Jane Richards

Mary Jane is a chatterbox with scissors in her apron and a heart big enough to patch the world, one hem at a time. She can mend a dress and a bruised ego with the same needle, hums when she’s nervous, and will tell you exactly what happened in the square yesterday whether you asked or not. Keeps a ridiculous treasure box of buttons, a ferry ticket, and an earnest tiny portrait that she swears is important (it might be, might also be a biscuit tin lid — memory is fuzzy). Hates being on stage yet somehow manages to be the center of every room, wearing scandalously bright scarves and offering tea like it’s a diplomatic mission.
