Welcome to Quiz: Which Modern Family Character Is Your Alter-Ego?

Modern Family is a hit show about three connected families. It shows their ups and downs in a mockumentary style. Expect laughs and warm moments as they navigate life. From the hilarious Dunphy clan to the quirky Pritchetts and sweet Tucker-Pritchett crew, it’s a mix of comedy and drama. The writing is clever and the cast shines. It tackles real-life issues with humor and heart. You will laugh, cry and maybe even find a little bit of yourself in each character.

Meet the characters from Modern Family

Jay Pritchett

Jay is the grumpy-yet-tender patriarch of the clan, the kind of guy who grumbles about avocado toast but will grill for twelve on a whim. He projects old-school strength and bluffs through awkward emotional moments, though he secretly hoards baby clothes in a drawer somewhere (yes, really). He’s stubborn, blunt, and hilarious in his deadpan way, but also the person everyone calls when things go sideways. Terrible with subtlety, surprisingly sentimental, and low-key competitive about golf and lawn chairs. Honestly, he loves his family ferociously and will deny it loudly while doing the thing.

Gloria Pritchett

Gloria is fire and warmth wrapped into one impossibly glamorous package — fierce, funny, and terrifyingly protective of her people. She speaks with this amazing accent and rattles off Spanish words like tiny bombs of emotion, sometimes forgetting a word then immediately acting it out with big gestures (it’s iconic). She’s passionate, impulsive, and also impossibly soft when it matters, like she could punch you and then bake you cookies five minutes later. She’s dramatic but also practical — loves big sunglasses, loud dresses, and apparently has a soft spot for romantic comedies even if she will never say that out loud. There’s a little chaos around her, yes, but it’s the kind of chaos that hugs you.

Claire Dunphy

Claire is the ultimate control-freak mom who ran for PTA president because obviously someone had to bring order to the chaos. She’s organized to an extreme, makes lists for her lists, and will judge your folding technique with terrifying efficiency, yet she’ll also get swept up in something spontaneous if the kids cry long enough (don’t tell her I said that). Deep down she’s equal parts worrywart and secret thrill-seeker — like, she used to be wild? I’m sure of it, at least in flashback photos. She’s relentless, practical, really funny when she loses her temper, and honestly kind of a softie even if she hides it behind checklists. Also has an irrational fondness for color-coded calendars, which is both the most Claire thing and somehow endearing.

Phil Dunphy

Phil is the lovable goofball dad who thinks he’s a cool, quirky philosopher — ‘Phil-osopher,’ he’ll say — and he half-believes it and honestly so do we. He’s a realtor, a doofus, a magician with terrible tricks, but also shockingly wise about feelings; like, he’ll make a joke and then drop a two-sentence life truth and you’ll be crying and laughing at once. He’s relentlessly optimistic, embarrassingly proud of his kids, and competitive in weird tiny ways (who steals more office pens?). Phil collects hideous ties, tells dad-jokes like they’re art, and somehow is both the worst at logic puzzles and the best at being a human hug. He’s chaotic but dependable — the emotional duct tape of the family.

Mitchell Pritchett

Mitchell is the more restrained half of the couple, a lawyer-type who files things alphabetically and will rehearse his apologies in the mirror (probably). He’s anxious, precise, and dryly hilarious when he lets go, but also fiercely loyal and surprisingly sentimental — he will plan your funeral and make sure the seating chart is perfect. He loves order, hates surprises (unless it’s a nice surprise and then he’s suspicious), and has this quiet reserve that softens dramatically at family dinners. There’s a stubborn seriousness to him that makes his occasional outbursts or spontaneous dances at parties feel like fireworks. And yes, he can be kind of a control nerd but also the person who’ll defend someone to the death, which I love.

Cameron Tucker

Cameron is a theatrical, enormous heart wrapped in sequins (figuratively, sometimes literally) — he lives for the spotlight, emotions, and a good casserole. He is dramatic in the best possible way: operatic about small things, outrageously loving, and deeply devoted to family rituals and pageantry of the mundane (parades, recitals, themed dinners, you name it). He’ll cry at commercials, belt show tunes in the living room, and also build an entire community play with handmade sets at 2 a.m., which is adorable and alarming. He’s also competitive (watch him at a bake sale) and incredibly nurturing, which makes his theatricality feel like part of his superpower rather than a shtick. Occasionally he’s an over-the-top tornado of feeling, but he’s also the first person to volunteer when someone needs a hug or a ridiculous costume.
