Better Call Saul? It is a wild ride. A prequel to Breaking Bad, it dives into Jimmy McGill’s life. He is a lawyer, struggling to find his way in Albuquerque’s criminal world. Characters pop up, some you know from Breaking Bad. Complex folks, twisty plots and sharp writing make it a must-watch. Get ready for some surprises!

Meet the characters from Better Call Saul

Hector Salamanca

Hector is pure old-school fury with a bell — yes, the bell — and a face that tells you he’s probably two seconds from detonating a problem. He’s this terrifying blend of stubborn honor and unhinged violence, like a man who hugs family and then scares the heck out of everyone else. Surprisingly, there are moments where he’s almost sentimental (I swear he once paused to sniff a flower? maybe I’m remembering wrong), which makes him even scarier. Definitely the kind of guy who refuses to back down, even if it’s totally reckless.

Chuck McGill

Chuck is the brilliant, brittle legal brain who treats law like sacred scripture and electricity like a personal vendetta. He’s meticulous and austere, the kind of person who will correct your punctuation and then quietly lecture you on ethics for half an hour. There’s a wounded pride beneath all that rigidity — he can be almost tender in a stern, exasperated way — which makes his fall feel tragic, not just dramatic. Also, he probably has a cupboard full of perfectly folded handkerchiefs and hates fluorescent lights with religious passion.

Gus Fring

Gus is the calmest kind of terrifying — polished, polite, wears the nicest aprons and smiles like a man who’s memorized everyone’s weakness. He’s a strategist to the bone; everything is quiet, clean, and exactly arranged, but you can tell there’s a cold machine underneath. Weird little detail: he seems to love routine so much he’d probably alphabetize spices if he could, and yet he’s capable of ruthless improvisation in a pinch. Honestly, he’s the type you’d trust to babysit your money and then learn it never came back.

Nacho Varga

Nacho is the poor soul trying to be smart within a system that chews people up — clever, exhausted, and always calculating the next move. He’s loyal in a complicated way; he wants out but keeps getting pulled back, and you can see the guilt etched on his face. He fixes small things (cars, watches?) to feel like he’s in control, which is both practical and heartbreakingly human. Also, he has this soft spot for his dad that makes him do reckless stuff he swears he won’t do… and then does anyway.

Howard Hamlin

Howard looks like a glossy brochure and kind of lives like one — powdered-perfect suits, impeccable posture, endless charm. He’s the poster child for professional polish, but there’s a hint of insecurity underneath the smile, like he’s always auditioning to be liked. Sometimes he’s annoyingly earnest, sometimes genuinely kind, and yes, he does own more cufflinks than sense. If you think he’s just a caricature, give him five minutes — he’ll surprise you by being almost human.

Tuco Salamanca

Tuco is pure kinetic menace, like someone bottled up a thunderstorm and released it into a small room. He’s chaotic, explosive, and gloriously unfiltered — you never know if he’s going to laugh, cry, or start a brawl, which is thrilling and terrifying. Somehow he’s oddly loyal in a disturbingly intense way, and also has the subtlety of a jackhammer (in a good or extremely bad sense). He might hum while he menaces, or maybe I made that up — point is, he’s dangerously unpredictable.

Mike Ehrmantraut

Mike is the stoic, no-nonsense fixer who runs on muscle memory and quiet principles; he’s the dad you didn’t know you needed and the problem-solver you definitely don’t want to anger. He’s methodical, grumpy about small talk, but secretly has a soft center for kids and the little injustices in life. He probably keeps a toolbox in his soul and a jar of hard candy in his pocket (or maybe that’s a movie I watched?), and he’s the kind of guy who does one perfect thing and then leaves. There’s this melancholic professionalism about him that makes every action mean something.

Kim Wexler

Kim is laser-focused, brilliant, and quietly stubborn — the person you want on your side in a fight and the one who will quietly reorganize your chaos. She’s ambitious but not the flashy kind; she’s all discipline, poker faces, and tiny rebellious streaks that make her human. Sometimes she’s pragmatic to the point of coldness, and other times she’ll do something reckless out of loyalty or principle (which is my favorite contradiction). Also, she probably owns three different pens for three different moods and uses them religiously.

Jimmy McGill

Jimmy is a lovable hustler with a grin stapled to his face and about a thousand schemes bubbling under his charm. He’s quick, hilarious, and devastatingly empathetic in weird, inconvenient ways — like a troublemaking heart in human form. He’ll sell you a clever lie and then feel awful about it five minutes later, which makes him both infuriating and impossible not to root for. Also, he has a soft spot for cheap suits and even cheaper con tricks, and somehow it all fits together like a messy, brilliant puzzle.

Lalo Salamanca

Lalo is the dangerously charismatic wild card — disarmingly friendly one minute and the sort of predator who laughs while planning consequences the next. He’s charming in a way that makes you want to trust him and then realize your hand is already in his pocket. There’s an almost theatrical flair to him — he loves a good story, a good meal, and a good surprise — which makes him as fun as he is deadly. Small silly image: he’d probably bring fresh flowers to a stakeout, but then that’s Lalo for you, contradictions and all.
