Meet the characters from Billions

Charles Rhoades

Charles is that relentless legal predator who wears justice like armor and a severe suit — you can see the gavel in his jawline, honestly. He’s obsessively principled (and also kind of a control freak who will absolutely text you at 2 a.m. about ethics), which makes him equal parts inspiring and infuriating. He plays chess while everyone else is playing poker, except sometimes he forgets the rules because feelings get in the way — and yes he sulks, which is weirdly adorable if you are into that. Always scheming but always sincere-ish, he’s the moralist who will also break a few windows to make a point.

Robert Axelrod

Bobby is chaos in a billionaire suit — ruthless, brilliant, and gorgeously single-minded about making money and winning. He’s a self-made guy who loves the smell of risk, hates losing more than he hates laundry (which he probably ignores), and has this weird affectionate way of treating his empire like a pet. There’s a soft spot buried under all that bravado — don’t expect him to say it out loud, he’ll just buy you lunch or throw you a bone — which makes him unexpectedly human sometimes. He’s the kind of guy who will both charm a senator and throw a chair if the numbers go south.

Wendy Rhoades

Wendy is the razor-sharp performance coach with a velvet glove and a steel fist, you know? She reads people like an open book and then misdirects you with a smile, which is terrifying and brilliant at once. Loyal to a fault (well, mostly — she has her own rules) and secretly enjoys psychiatric jargon like it’s candy, she holds the room together even when she’s quietly ripping it apart. Also she collects tiny notebooks and probably has a playlist for every mood, which is very her.

Lara Axelrod

Lara is loud, glamorous, and ferociously protective — she could host a gala and then personally throttle someone in the parking lot, sometimes both in the same evening. She’s fiercely practical but has this delightfully excessive streak (champagne on a Tuesday? yes), and honestly her loyalty to her family is the whole deal. She can be tender and then suddenly savage — contradiction is her default setting — and she will always, always back her people. There’s an old-money vibe but also a dirt-under-the-fingernails grit that makes her endlessly watchable.

Bryan Connerty

Bryan is the earnest, rule-loving prosecutor who wears his conscience on his sleeve and a slightly too-tired face every season. He wants to do the right thing and will argue statutes in a way that somehow becomes emotional (don’t ask how), which makes him both inspiring and slightly tragic. Meticulous, anxious, very procedural, but with flashes of moral courage that surprise even him — he’s the guy who brings paperwork to a gunfight and still somehow wins. He also has weird little rituals — like alphabetizing pens — or maybe I made that up, but I can see it.

Mike Wagner

Mike is the hard-driving litigator who smells like adrenaline and bad coffee; he’s blunt, competent, and the kind of person you want in a crisis and also the kind you’ll fight with in the hallway. He’s gruff but loyal, and somehow wears loyalty like a badge and sarcasm like cologne. He’ll argue the legal minutiae until sunrise and then go home and… do burpees? possibly, I mean, he has that energy. There’s a blue-collar bluntness to him that masks a surprisingly strategic brain.

Kate Sacker

Kate is the hungry, sharp-as-a-knife fixer who started as an assistant and now runs the room with sticky notes and barely-contained ambition. She’s practical, street-smart, and kind of ruthless when it comes to her career — but also quietly sentimental (you can see it in her desk tchotchkes, or maybe that’s just me projecting). She flips between eager subordinate and cool-as-ice operator in a blink, which makes her unpredictable and extremely effective. Also she smiles like she’s plotting, which is delightful.

Taylor Amber Mason

Taylor Amber Mason is the brilliant, deadpan quant who solves everything with math and then explains feelings with spreadsheets — which is a mood. Hyper-rational, delightfully precise, and quietly rebellious, they’re the person who will both correct your model and roast your life choices in the most clinical way possible. They’re oddly empathetic for someone who treats markets like puzzles, and yes they have aesthetic tastes that are bafflingly minimalist (or maximalist? depends on the coffee). Brilliant, calm, and occasionally startlingly emotional if you press the right button.

Bill Stearn

Bill Stearn is the seasoned old-school investor type who smells like cigar smoke and history and has a Rolodex that could solve world hunger — or at least a market crash. He’s nostalgic for the good old cutthroat days but also surprisingly adaptable, which can be disarming; like, he’ll reminisce about tape machines and then text you a trade idea. He’s warm in a gruff way, loves telling war stories, and secretly enjoys spreadsheets (don’t tell anyone), and he sometimes forgets names but not faces. Classic, a bit stubborn, and oddly tender under the leather blazer.
