Meet the characters from Star Trek: Strange New Worlds

Christopher Pike

Pike is the kind of captain who looks calm but is full of stormy thoughts—steady, authoritative, and secretly worrying 24/7 (like, you can see it in his jaw). He’s compassionate to a fault and stubborn in the best possible way, always putting people before procedure and then berating himself for it later. There’s this haunted, noble vibe about him, like he’s carrying ten past mistakes in his pocket but still manages to crack a terrible dad joke sometimes. He leads with moral clarity but also gets impulsive when someone he cares about is in danger — yes he’s human, obviously, even when he’s being a monument. Also, low-key collects old maps? I think that’s a thing.

Spock

Spock is the classic logic fortress with a surprisingly messy emotional attic—very composed, razor-brained, but there are cracks where the feelings peek out (and ruin everything gently). He’s brilliant, stoic, sarcastic in a very dry way, and oddly fond of obscure human customs that he’ll never admit are cute. He balances scientific curiosity with an ongoing internal identity debate, which makes him endlessly fascinating and sometimes frustrating. He’ll tell you exactly why your plan is flawed, then save the day with math, and then make you feel vaguely guilty for breathing wrong. Also, sometimes he rolls his eyes, like actually, and that is everything.

Number One

Number One is unflappable competence personified—quiet, intimidatingly efficient, and somehow both distant and fiercely loyal at once. She runs the ship’s backbone with a steelcore of professionalism but has these sudden moments of dry humor that catch you off guard. She doesn’t need to shout to be terrifying; a single look does the trick, though she’ll also bring coffee to the chaos like a tiny, perfect diplomat. She keeps secrets the way cats keep yarn (stashed and strategic), and occasionally there’s a flash of warmth that makes you suspicious (in a good way). Also, she probably owns three different leather jackets and a plant she never waters.

Uhura

Uhura is magnetic, sharp, and absolutely owns any room she walks into—brilliant at comms and language stuff, but also a riot in social settings if you let her. She mixes professionalism with flirtatious wit and has this whole cultural curiosity thing (languages, music, jokes) that makes her irresistible. She’s brave in both the tiny personal ways and the huge “save-the-ship” moments, which is frustrating because she’s low-key a legend. She’ll decode your distress call and roast you in two languages while playing a melody in her head. Also, she definitely has a secret playlist that would destroy your weekend.

Dr. M’Benga

Dr. M’Benga is the calm, wise-hearted doctor who somehow balances empathy and blunt medical truth like a pro chef balancing flavors. He’s meticulous and ethical and has seen stuff that makes him oddly philosophical, plus he has an excellent poker face that hides a hurt-but-resolute soul. He cares deeply about his patients and will ghost you with a medical term if you try to argue with him, but then bring you tea if you look sad. He’s reliable in a crisis and sometimes weirdly nostalgic about old Earth remedies (or maybe I made that up—no, I feel like he mentioned herbs once). Also, he’s the kind of guy who organizes his pens by color and then forgets where they are.

Christine Chapel

Christine is soft-spoken but fierce in the way only someone who has seen lives hang by thread can be—nurturing, intuitive, and a little bit stubborn about doing things her way. She’s the classic healer with a complicated inner life; yes she fusses over bandages, but she also has opinions that will surprise you. She’s loyal to a fault (and awkward about flirting, if you ask me), and there’s this tenderness that makes her stick out in a room full of bravado. She’ll cry in private and then explain anatomy like a CEO in public, which is very her. Also, I’m pretty sure she collects mismatched teacups and defends them passionately.

La’an Noonien-Singh

La’an is this fierce, haunted warrior with a laser focus on justice and a personal backstory that explains why she’s constantly scanning for danger. She’s intense, none of your nonsense allowed, but also quietly compassionate under a crust of cynicism — like a marshmallow that’s also a blade. Her loyalty is brutal and protectively territorial; you want her on your side, just maybe don’t ask too many questions about her past unless you want to cry. She’s unpredictable in a sexy, terrifying way and occasionally does something surprisingly soft because humans are weird. Also, sometimes she talks to her gun like it’s a pet (not joking).

Erica Ortegas

Ortegas is the ace pilot who grins at gravity and basically hates rules unless they involve maintenance schedules. She’s gutsy, snarky, and has this reckless charm that makes the whole bridge feel electric when she speaks. She’s loyal to the crew in a cranky, practical way — shows you with actions, not speeches — and is perpetually annoyed by bad coffee and people who don’t check their vectors. She loves speed and probably has a lucky chip or a childhood bandana she refuses to wash. Also, she’ll challenge you to a race and then pretend she didn’t mean it.

Hemmer

Hemmer is the delightfully literal and quietly dramatic engineer who runs on logic, very precise gestures, and an inexplicable love for fiddly gadgets. He’s intensely practical, a little awkward in social situations, and oddly wise about people in between muttering about flux capacitors (not the actual term, but you know). He’s compassionate but expresses it through efficiency and weirdly specific gifts (like replacing your faulty nut with a perfectly fitting nut). He’s a stickler for protocol but will break it in a heartbeat if it helps a crewmate, which is very confusing and sweet. Also, he eats something crunchy at all hours—could be chips, could be a small asteroid, unclear.

James T. Kirk

Kirk is the incandescent, impulsive firework of a leader who’s equal parts charm, cockiness, and actual bravery (very annoying in the best way). He’s famously bold, loves a good gamble, and will make decisions that look reckless until they work like a movie finale. He’s charismatic, flirty, and has this deep need to be liked which makes him both relatable and dangerous (like a puppy with a phaser). He can be incredibly strategic and also throw a tantrum when outwitted, which is part of his chaotic charm. Also, he always wears a different shirt and somehow it matters.
