Meet the characters from Stargate: Atlantis

Lt. Colonel John Sheppard

Sheppard is that annoyingly cool leader who strolls into a fight like it’s just another Tuesday (but secretly does sleepless recon, shh). He’s laid-back, hilarious, and ridiculously good with a P90 — plus he pilots like he was born with a flight stick in his hands. There’s this stubborn streak of loyalty and a weird tragic side that pops up at 3am, which makes him more than just the charming rogue. Also, he somehow manages to be both impulsive and the one you trust to make the right call, which is confusing but very much his thing.

Teyla Emmagan

Teyla is quietly powerful in the best way — warrior, diplomat, and mother-figure all wrapped into one graceful but dangerous package. She carries this deep spiritual connection to the people and the land (I mean, her heart-on-sleeve moments will make you cry), yet she can stare down a Wraith like it’s a garden-variety squirrel. She’s calm and patient but also has a fierceness that surprises people who underestimate her — and yes she loves peace and also apparently loves hunting things, go figure. There’s something almost mystical about her, yet she’s also awkward in the best human ways sometimes, which is adorable.

Dr. Rodney McKay

McKay is the snarky genius who will simultaneously fix your engine and insult your ancestry — and you’ll be grateful for both. He’s brilliant to an obnoxious degree, neurotic, prone to panic attacks when things are not 100% under control, and then smugly calm when he pulls a miracle out of thin air. He cares (deeply) under layers and will deny it vociferously while offering passive-aggressive medical advice; also he hoards lab equipment like a dragon, I swear. He’s infuriating, hilarious, brilliant, and absolutely essential, and yes, he does have a surprisingly soft spot for friends — you’ll pry it out of him with a crowbar.

Ronon Dex

Ronon is the heavy-hitting lone wolf with a tragic past and a suspiciously soft spot for loyalty (also surprisingly terrible at small talk). He’s a hunter, fighter, and full-time scowl provider, but don’t let the gruff exterior fool you — he’s basically a big teddy bear if teddy bears carried high-caliber rifles. He despises being coddled (yet secretly enjoys a good home-cooked meal — maybe, if you’re not watching), and his stubbornness is both his superpower and the reason he almost gets himself killed sometimes. He speaks sparingly, which makes every sentence he does give you feel like a punch and a poem at once.

Dr. Elizabeth Weir

Weir is the primordial diplomatic glue holding everyone together — poised, clever, and morally complicated in the best way. She negotiates, she plans, she gives pep talks in-the-field (and then calms down and cries quietly in the ship bathroom, but like, dignified tears). She’s a leader who prefers words to weapons but will throw a punch if the situation demands it — and she’s not above getting her hands dirty when necessary. Also she has this warm, slightly weary smile that makes you believe in civilization even when things are literally falling apart.

Dr. Carson Beckett

Carson is the sympathetic, impossibly kind medic with a Scottish burr and a bedside manner that could heal nations (and also, possibly, make you feel guilty about being grumpy). He’s brilliant, endlessly compassionate, and somehow the moral compass everyone sloppily leans on, while also being awkward about praise — like he’ll deflect it with a daft joke and then vanish into a lab. He loves home, oatmeal, and old songs, and he gets worryingly attached to patients, which is both sweet and a recipe for personal angst. Honestly, he’s the big soft heart of the team and also the person you want three of on any mission.

Dr. Radek Zelenka

Zelenka is the lovable Czech genius who is equal parts exasperated and delightfully earnest — always the one muttering about theoretical probabilities while simultaneously saving everyone’s life. He’s meticulous, principled, and constantly rolling his eyes at McKay (but will also back him up in a heartbeat, which is the cutest reluctant friendship ever). He speaks with that charming accent and has spill-your-coffee panic moments, yet he’s steady under pressure in a nerdy, calculator-clutching way. He’s the kind of guy you want on your team when the techocalypse happens, and also the one who will insist on documenting it in perfect detail (and maybe complain about the coffee machine).
