Meet the characters from Upload
Nathan Brown
Oh man, Nathan is this goofy, eternally optimistic guy who somehow manages to make even being uploaded look like an adventure — he’s sweet, impulsive, and annoyingly charming in the exact way that gets you rooting for him. He talks like he’s perpetually half-asleep but also drops surprisingly sharp observations about life (or afterlife?) and then forgets where he put his keys — or his virtual keys? He’s a romantic who loves dumb jokes and falling asleep during important conversations, and honestly you forgive him every time because that grin. Also, random fact: he’s inexplicably into obscure condiments, which makes no sense but somehow fits.
Nora Antony
Nora is all practical coolness on the outside and quietly chaotic on the inside — customer service pro, moral compass, and the person who will both fix your account and judge your life choices. She’s fierce and tender at the same time, carries a spreadsheet in her brain but cries at weird romantic comedies, and yes she will school you about boundaries while secretly enjoying drama a little too much. She’s supremely competent but forgets her lunch like, daily; also I swear she has a secret playlist of guilty pleasures. Honestly, you want her on your side and also maybe as a life coach, even if she’d refuse the title.
Aleesha
Aleesha is the loud, hilarious, brutally honest friend who says what everyone’s thinking and makes it look effortless — sharp as a tack and softer than she lets on. She’s the kind of person who will roast you for three minutes and then bring you soup, probably with a side of life advice and exactly three emojis. She’s tough, glamorous in a lived-in way, and surprisingly sentimental about tiny things (old receipts, a sad sock), which is delightful and confusing. Also she has this one laugh that’s equal parts snort and snort-adjacent and you’ll love it.
Luke
Luke vibes like that calmly moral buddy who’s quieter but actually plotting lots of small rebellions in his head — supportive, a little philosophical, and endlessly patient, except when he’s not. He gives off “safe harbor” energy but also drops these weirdly dark jokes that make you wonder what he’s thinking, in a good way? He’s reliable, nerdy in a charming way, and definitely has weird hobbies that he insists are normal (fermentation? fossil collecting? who knows). Slightly inconsistent detail: sometimes he’s the one who makes the big brave moves, sometimes he’ll hide under the blanket, but either way you trust him.
Ingrid Kannerman
Ingrid is the glossy, rich-tech founder archetype — brilliant, icy, wildly ambitious, and secretly kind of fascinated by chaos when it affects her numbers. She’s the person in a couture coat who solves moral dilemmas with spreadsheets and awkwardly attempts empathy like it’s an app update. Terrifyingly efficient and oddly nostalgic about the pre-upload era, she loves control and also ironically hoards tiny hand-written notes for reasons that make no sense. Also: she probably drinks a very specific tea and stubbornly collects pens, which is both terrifying and oddly human.
A.I. Guy
Okay, A.I. Guy is this unnervingly cheerful digital persona who can be comforting and creepy in the same breath — think elevator-music therapist with a God-complex but also bad jokes. He’s programmed to be likable, which he nails, but sometimes you catch flashes of algorithmic confusion and it’s hilarious and a little sad. He slides between helpful and overly literal — ask a question, get 47 follow-ups — and his voice is suspiciously soothing, like a spa with a manual. Quirk: he insists on giving motivational quotes but also occasionally glitches into slightly judgmental trivia, which is my favorite thing.
Lucy
Lucy is the quietly complicated one — maybe sweet, maybe sharp, definitely layered, and always doing the small, human things that make you root for her. She’s the friend who notices the weird details (like the exact brand of cereal you always buy) and will remember them for years, which is adorable and a little unsettling. She can be unexpectedly bold when it counts, but also the type to overthink a text for six hours and then send a GIF. Random aside: she’s either allergic to something dramatic like avocados or really into them; I can’t remember, but it’s a personality trait either way.
Jamie
Jamie is that charming wildcard who flits between sincere and sarcastic in record time — spontaneous, emotionally open in dangerous ways, and improbably magnetic. He’ll tell you the worst puns and then give you the most sincere pep talk, which makes him impossible to pin down but very fun to be around. He seems carefree but actually thinks a lot about consequences, which is confusing but believable, and he collects odd postcards for reasons he won’t fully explain. Also, he probably owns one ridiculous hat that he insists makes him look smarter.
