Meet the characters from Final Fantasy XIV
Alphinaud
Okay, Alphinaud is that brilliant, slightly serious kid who thinks ten moves ahead and then explains it calmly like he’s handing you tea — and yes he probably does have very particular tea. He’s ambitious and annoyingly organized, the kind of person who labels everything but then somehow leaves a stack of drafts on his desk for weeks (don’t ask). Idealistic to a fault, a planner, a diplomat, and also the one who will stay up all night rewriting a speech when everyone else is asleep. He can be pompous and adorable in the same breath, honestly a total lovable strategist with an eyebrow that judges you gently.
Thancred
Thancred is the roguish charmer who looks like he’s two steps from a bar fight and three steps from stealing your heart — and also your sandwich, probably. He’s flippant and funny one minute, disturbingly serious and haunted the next, secret-agent vibes but with a soft spot for pastries (I swear he has a weakness for cream puffs). Loyal to the bone, practical in battle, and always ready with a quip — except when he’s not, and then he disappears into Very Mysterious Silence. He’s the “I don’t care” type who actually cares way too much, and that contradiction is why he’s fascinating.
Y’shtola
Y’shtola is pure dry wit wrapped in ancient knowledge and fluffy ears, like if a scholar-cat could cast ruin on you but still give the best life advice. She’s aloof, sharp, and so much smarter than most of us, but there are these tiny moments (a twitch of a whisker, a rare smile) that show she actually does care deeply — and will probably shush you about it. She hates loud nonsense yet will chase after silly theories like a nosy librarian with a sword. Also, rumor has it she has a soft spot for comfortable sweaters, which is both believable and slightly suspicious.
Alisaie
Alisaie is fire in human form — blunt, relentless, and the twin who will drag you out of bed at dawn to fight dragons or argue philosophy, sometimes both, sometimes at the same time. She says exactly what she thinks, which is both refreshing and terrifying; she also has this weird secret sweetness (tries to act tough but gif collection says otherwise). Impulsive? Yes. Brave? Absolutely. She’ll punch a wall and then get emotional over a stray cat five minutes later (not consistent, but someone’s gotta be dramatic).
Aymeric
Aymeric is courtly and kind and sorts of fragile-sturdy like an old cathedral — dignified, patient, and always thinking about the people under his care, and yet he can be intensely stubborn when it counts. He has that leaderly calm that makes you want to confide in him, and also the heavy weight of responsibility which he carries with quiet humor sometimes (terrible jokes at banquet dinners, allegedly). He’s moral and a little romantic about duty, loves order and beautiful things, and will absolutely defend his friends with a papered glove if necessary. Sometimes he comes off formal but he’s surprisingly down-to-earth once you get him talking about architecture or soup recipes.
G’raha Tia
G’raha is the earnest relic-hunter who’ll stop mid-battle to sketch a sundial or loudly explain cosmic lore in great, enthusiastic detail — adorable, insatiably curious, and kind of a chaos magnet. He is relentlessly optimistic in a way that feels almost heroic, and yes he collects notebooks and probably has a dramatic reenactment planned of every sunrise he’s ever seen. He gets super serious about destiny but will also crack dumb jokes and puns at the worst times, which somehow works. Charming, weird, a little scatterbrained, and somehow the one you trust with extremely questionable artifacts.
Raubahn
Raubahn is massive heart and muscle combined — thunderous laugh, terrifying war-cry, and a general who somehow remembers everyone’s name and birthday (how?). He’s blunt, loyal to an absurd degree, and the kind of commander who leads from the front and then quietly checks on the camp’s morale after a battle. Protector, party guy, and sometimes surprisingly sentimental about small traditions (like weirdly specific stew recipes). He looks like a cliff and gives off “I will protect you” vibes while also being the guy who hugs too hard — in a good way.
Estinien
Estinien is stoic, sharp, and has a tragic glare that could be used as a state weapon — broody dragon-slayer energy with an honor code so strict it squeaks. Cold on the outside, but loyal in the most stubborn fashion imaginable; he will grumble and refuse help and then quietly show up when you most need him. He loves precision (weapons, combat technique, maybe tea timing?), and also unexpectedly collects tiny sentimental things which he refuses to admit are precious. That prickly exterior hides a very complicated heart, and honestly that’s the whole appeal.
Emet-Selch
Emet-Selch is theatrical, unbearably clever, and devastatingly charming in that “ancient being who remembers everything” way — like a professor who also stage-manages the end of the world for sport. He speaks in wry aphorisms, loves music and fine things, and has a philosophical cruelty that will make you think and then punch a wall (emotionally). He can be warm and patronizing in the same sentence, fiercely nostalgic for a lost age, and yet he can be petty about small slights — human and terrifying. There’s tragedy and dignity wrapped up in his monologues, and somehow he makes you root for him while panicking.
Haurchefant
Haurchefant is the sunbeam knight: impossibly kind, utterly loyal, and the kind of person who will cheerfully hand you the keys to his city and offer you tea with a grin. He’s optimistic to a fault, brave without thinking, and has this ridiculous habit of being the emotional center of the room — you feel safer just standing near him. He is also surprisingly political and thoughtful under the smile, like he reads hard books between cheering people up (yes, he both hums and quotes treaties). Ridiculously earnest, slightly dramatic in the best way, and impossible not to love.
