Dragon Prince is a wild ride created by Aaron Ehasz and Justin Richmond. It takes place in Xadia, where two human princes and an elven assassin try to stop a war. Meet the characters from The Dragon Prince

Sunfire High Priest

Okay, the Sunfire High Priest is this intensely solemn, ritual-loving powerhouse who feels like sunbeams made into a person — very formal, very ritual, but also kind of secretly sentimental about small things (like incense, which he absolutely hoards). He has this whole “devotion above all” vibe but then will smile at a badly told joke and you’re like wait, did I misread the sermon? He rules with absolute conviction and a ridiculous fondness for exact phrasing — vows, oaths, the works — and also insists on sandals with everything, even in battle (don’t ask me why I remember that). Somehow terrifying and kind of grandparently wise at the same time, he’s the sort of leader who’d scold you and then bake you a pie.

Callum

Callum is the awkward-sweet mage type who grew into his power with a lot of stumbling and notebook doodles, like, he’s literally writing spells in margins and sketching stars mid-battle. Soft-hearted, curious, and a little unsure, but when he cares about something he goes full-100% nerdy devotion mode (and honestly it’s adorable). He’s prone to overthinking — will hesitate, then surprise everyone by winging it brilliantly — and also collects pencils for reasons that might be sentimental or maybe he’s just a pencil hoarder, I can’t be sure. Feels like someone you want on your side; chaotic kindness with a sparkly wand.

Ziard

Ziard comes off as the gruff commander who’s seen way too much and is suspicious of everything except loyalty, which he worships like it’s a relic. He’s blunt, strategic, kind of a no-nonsense “get it done” person, but every now and then he blurts out a tiny encouraging thing that makes you rethink everything you thought about him. Will lead a charge and then pester you about your boots afterward — practical to a fault, yet weirdly sentimental about old maps and chewed-up battle flags. Honestly gives “tough exterior, soft secret storage of letters” energy, and I love that contradiction.

Ibis

Ibis is the bookish, quiet type who lives in margins and footnotes — like, obsessed with knowledge, the sort who will rescue a dusty tome over a chair and might have a plant named after a forgotten spell. Slightly awkward in social situations, extremely precise with facts, but then also prone to these unexpectedly dramatic opinions about pastries and the correct way to shelve a prophecy (don’t argue with them about prophecy shelving). They’re the kind of calm brain you want in a crisis because they will calmly tell you what went wrong and also offer you tea from a mug that is almost certainly chipped. A little mysterious, very clever, and probably knows three languages you don’t even realize exist.

Lujanne

Lujanne is bright and earnest, the kind of person who believes in people and also will absolutely lecture you on ethics for an hour if you mess up, but she’s oddly whimsical about it, like ethics with glitter. She’s compassionate to the bone, stubborn as a mule, and quietly fierce when protecting her friends — also has a weird hobby of arranging stones by mood or something, which makes no sense but I love it. Sometimes she feels like sunshine and other times like a sudden monsoon of determination; inconsistent? maybe. She’s the moral compass with a playful streak who might bake cookies to atone for a mistake (and then critique your frosting technique).

Viren

Viren is deliciously complicated — charismatic, ruthless, and always three steps ahead in the kind of way that makes you both respect and fear him. He’s a political animal, a strategist who believes in order and power (and uses history like a chess set), but he also has weirdly tender paternal moments that make you doubt whether he’s purely a villain — nope, still villain, but layered. He collects ancient tomes and has impeccable handwriting, which is exactly the sort of detail that makes him equal parts terrifying and oddly cultured. Basically: smooth operator, dangerously persuasive, will give you a logical speech about why his plan makes sense and then do the scariest thing.

Claudia

Claudia is the delightfully unhinged genius who loves experiments a little too much and thinks ethics are optional reading — you can hear the plotting in her laugh, I swear. Brilliant, obsessive, and a tiny bit dramatic, she’s equal parts mad scientist and fiercely loyal daughter (yep, contradictory but it works), and she keeps pet frogs and tiny relics like trophies. Her spells are beautiful and alarming and she’ll absolutely throw a tantrum if someone underestimates her intelligence (and then prove them wrong spectacularly). Basically: chaotic, clever, a little terrifying, and somehow weirdly endearing when she’s grumbling about lab cleanliness.

Aaravos

Aaravos is the slick, ancient charmer who oozes calm menace and collects secrets like luxury trinkets, so approachable and then—bam—existential horror. He speaks like he’s narrating a dream and will smile while turning your whole world upside down, which is both compelling and deeply unsettling; also has theatrical taste in music and definitely uses candles even when it’s daylight. He’s ancient, manipulative, bafflingly cultured, and insists on doing things with style and a wink, which makes him irresistible and untrustworthy at the same time. Picture the friend who always knows the answers and also might be plotting to rewrite reality — glamorous, eerie, and very, very smart.
