Meet the characters from The Dragon Prince
Sunfire High Priest
Oh man, the Sunfire High Priest is basically all ceremony and simmering intensity — you can feel the hush when he walks into a room, like a kettle about to whistle. He’s reverent and ritual-obsessed, yet somehow also petty about who sits in the front row (which feels oddly human). He radiates this whole “I’m ancient and wise” vibe but then will get weirdly smug about small victories, like winning an argument about incense. Also, I swear he hums to himself sometimes, which makes him both intimidating and — no joke — a little adorable.
Callum
Callum is that awkward, big-hearted mage who learns magic the hard way while drawing constellations in the margins of his notebook — he’s brainy and a little clumsy and you just want to protect him. He balances this nerdy bookishness with surprising bravery, and honestly his sarcasm is peak “I’m terrified but I’ll make a joke.” He paints, he broods, he makes weird snacks at 2 a.m. (don’t ask), and he’s way more emotionally competent than he pretends. Also, sometimes he forgets basic things like where he left his staff and yet remembers obscure runes, which is peak Callum.
Ziard
Ziard feels like the personification of rules dressed in ceremonial robes — very rigid, very officious, and probably very satisfied with a neatly filed archive of laws. He’s the kind of guy who will lecture you about tradition for 20 minutes and then smirk like he’s won a puzzle, which is oddly satisfying. There’s a side to him that’s secretively sentimental (he keeps tiny, totally unnecessary little trinkets), so don’t assume he’s a cardboard villain. Also, sometimes he’ll surprise everyone by doing something surprisingly rash, which makes you go, “wait, what?” and then he’ll go back to polite scolding.
Ibis
Ibis is delightfully odd, like a librarian who took a wrong turn into espionage and decided to keep both jobs; soft-spoken but observant, you notice things through him. He’s that quiet brain who stores gossip in his head like treasures, then drops a bomb of info with a smile, which is both brilliant and a little cruel. He seems gentle but has this steel to him — also, he collects pens, or maybe feathers? I can’t remember, but he definitely has an unplaceable laugh that shows up when you least expect it.
Lujanne
Lujanne is calm, diplomatic, and carries the kind of grace that makes you feel like everything will be okay even when it’s not — except she also absolutely will stab you if necessary, so don’t test it. She’s wise in a soft way, like someone who reads a thousand books and remembers exactly which one has the answer, and she loves ritual but doesn’t get bogged down by pomp. She drinks tea like it’s a ceremonial act (it is), and also collects tiny sun-themed trinkets which she arranges meticulously at night. Occasionally she’ll crack a joke that is so dry you forget she has a sense of humor at all, and then she’ll laugh at it herself, which is surprisingly infectious.
Viren
Viren is peak political mastermind — smooth, persuasive, and morally slippery in a way that makes you want to argue with him and also be convinced. He’s charismatic, cultured, and terrifyingly patient; he wears power like a bespoke suit and probably has a drawer of matching handkerchiefs. He’s the kind of father who does harsh things for what he calls “the greater good” and then composes a sonnet about it, and you’re never sure if he believes his own speeches. Also, tiny detail: he collects little glass bottles, maybe perfumes, maybe regrets, who knows, but it feels very him.
Claudia
Claudia is brilliant and volatile and probably the best kind of chaotic genius — she does dark magic with scientist-level focus and an artist’s flair, and she absolutely adores her father even when he’s infuriating. She’s sarcastic, occasionally terrifying, and shockingly tender in weird private ways (she might have a stuffed animal hidden in her lab, don’t tell). She’s messy, ambitious, and fiercely loyal to her own twisted logic — and also, I swear she can bake? Like, one minute she’s concocting a spell, the next she’s icing cupcakes, it’s confusing but delightful. She lives in her own moral grey area and honestly that’s half the charm.
Aaravos
Aaravos is the ancient, silky-voiced enigma who gives “charming manipulator” a masterclass — he’s all elegance, hidden teeth, and stories that make you trust him right before you realize you shouldn’t. He’s brilliant and patient on a cosmic scale, plays people like instruments, and probably keeps a ledger of favors and fingerprints on souls (gross, I know). He’ll quote poetry and tell a lullaby while arranging an elaborate conspiracy, which is both creepy and mesmerizing, and he definitely has a fondness for theatrical entrances. Small, suspiciously adorable note: he seems to love shiny things, or maybe that was just metaphorical, but either way it sticks with you.
