Meet the characters from The Outlaws
Rani Rekowski
Rani is that fizzing livewire who somehow manages chaos and charm in equal measure — loud, sharp, and impossibly practical when things hit the fan. She’s got a biting sense of humor and a softness she mostly hides under sarcasm, though every so often she’ll do something small and ridiculously kind (and then pretend she didn’t). Probably the person who’ll give you a life lesson at 2 a.m. and then steal your chips, and honestly you’d be grateful. Also, she has a habit of collecting random receipts like tiny trophies? Not sure why, but it feels very Rani.
John Halloran
Halloran is the grizzled, weary type who looks like he’s seen the worst and somehow keeps showing up anyway — stalwart, stubborn, a tiny bit broken in a way that makes him unbearably sympathetic. He’s the kind of guy who uses dry humor as armor and has a brutal honesty that’s simultaneously terrifying and comforting. Loves routine but will absolutely do something reckless if it protects someone he cares about (or he thinks he does, which is probably worse). Oh and he drinks tea like it’s a ritual, but then forgets where his keys every single day — honestly relatable.
Christian Taylor
Christian feels like the quiet, thoughtful one who’s carrying a lot under the surface; gentle but not weak, and unexpectedly fierce when pushed. He wrestles with guilt and loyalty in this way that makes you want to hug him and also lecture him, probably both at once. There’s an old soul vibe — reads poetry maybe, or at least likes pretending he does — but also has this ridiculous obsession with fast cars, which makes no sense until you see him drive. He’s secretly a softie and possibly owns three different types of notebooks that he never uses consistently.
Myrna Okeke
Myrna is all sharp edges that disguise a core of unshakeable determination — the kind of person who plans, organizes, and judges extremely fairly (in her own head) but can snap into warmth like a sunbeam out of nowhere. She’s efficient, bossy in the best way, and has the patience of someone who’s been waiting for things to make sense for too long. Surprisingly witty, too — she spits out one-liners with surgical accuracy, and somehow keeps everyone sober(ish) emotionally. Also she’s the kind of person who makes a spreadsheet for a party, which is equal parts admirable and terrifying.
Lady Gabriella Penrose-Howe
Gabriella is delightfully madcap aristocracy — expensive shoes, sharper tongue, and a moral compass that occasionally spins when convenient, but she means well? Maybe. She flits between scandalous glamour and unexpected kindness, like a very posh cat that occasionally rescues strays; charmingly inconsistent. You get the feeling she’s got layers, old family secrets, and a weakness for terrible reality TV, which is both scandalous and endearing. Also, she might have a ridiculous collection of antique spoons — or was it hats? Either way, lots of flair.
Malaki
Malaki is raw, intense, and full of combustible energy — the kind of person who makes you nervous just standing next to them but also oddly trust them instantly. He’s tough as nails but not a monster; there’s a vulnerable, almost tender core if you can get past the scowl (and the temper). Loves music too loud and hates small talk, and has this habit of doodling on napkins when he’s thinking, which is secretly adorable. Also, contradictory note: he’s excellent with kids and terrible with plants — kills every cactus he touches, which feels unfair.
Gregory Dillard
Gregory is the awkwardly charming blend of hapless and scheming — tries to be the grown-up but occasionally forgets how to be normal, which makes him oddly lovable. He has big ideas, half of which are brilliant and half of which will definitely backfire, but he commits like a hero anyway. Tends to apologize too much and then turn into a surprisingly fierce ally when it counts — low-key loyal to the bone. Also, rumor (maybe true) that he makes a mean lasagna, but then also burns toast constantly, so pick your battles.
Frank Sheldon
Frank is the veteran with a gravel voice and a cunning you only notice after you’ve already fallen for him — manipulative in the sleekest possible way, but sometimes in service of the greater good? Complicated. He’s the puppet-master who can be unexpectedly paternal and infuriatingly pragmatic, the sort of character who’ll tell you the truth and then make you hate him for it. Likes chess and pocket watches and smells like old books and coffee, which is oddly comforting until you remember he probably had a plan for that too.
