Miss Audrey
Okay, Miss Audrey is the kind of person who wears a perfect smile like armour and somehow makes cruelty look like manners — and then you realize she can actually be funny? She’s polished, fiercely loyal to the idea of order, but also petty in the most delicious way (yes she will remember that small slight from three years ago). Very theatrical energy, like someone who learned diplomacy by practicing monologues in a mirror — but also the one who will quietly fix a leaking pipe at 3 a.m. because she can’t stand chaos. There’s this tiny soft spot for nostalgia, so she hoards old postcards or something, which is suspiciously human for someone so composed.
Zarah Ferami
Zarah is all sharp edges and quick grins and you can tell she’s survived on wit as much as brawn — she fights with her mouth sometimes and then with her fists, and never apologizes for either. She’s fiercely protective of her people but also a little dramatic about it, like a friend who will burst into your house when they sense injustice and also bring snacks. Loves a good plan, hates being stuck in boring meetings, and yet will sit and listen to someone’s whole sad story if they start crying — which she will secretly enjoy. Oh and she probably has a tattoo that means nothing now but she’ll tell you it’s symbolic anyway.
Ruth Wardell
Ruth is the kind of steady presence you don’t notice until you desperately need her, and then she is the only thing holding the room together. Tough as nails, with a dry sense of humor that sneaks up on you, she’s both iron-willed and inexplicably sentimental — keeps a cracked mug that “reminds her of home,” but also will throw hands without blinking. She values family and community in this no-bullshit way that makes you either feel comforted or very judged, depending on how late you were to the meeting. Sometimes she hums gospel songs under her breath while fixing someone’s wounds, which is adorable and terrifying at once.
Bess Till
Bess is small but loud in the most memorable way — she notices everything, especially the things adults think are tiny, and then exploits them, bless her heart. She’s clever, a little mischievous, and has this stubborn optimism that makes you want to smother her with snacks or scold her for being ridiculous, both at once. Can be both naive and terrifyingly pragmatic; one minute she’s playing with a stuffed animal, next she’s bargaining like a tiny diplomat. Also, she sings to calm down when plans go sideways, which is the weirdest, sweetest thing.
Josie Wells
Josie is the quiet moral center who reads too much and smiles like she knows a secret — sometimes she does, sometimes she’s guessing, but either way you trust her. She’s empathetic to a fault, which means she gets dragged into things because she can’t stand to watch someone be treated poorly, and also makes lists for everything (and then loses them). A little dreamy, a little fierce, she’s got a way of turning up at the exact moment you need a hug or a scathing history lesson. Also, I’m pretty sure she keeps a stash of chocolate and old stamps for comfort, totally believable.
Andre Layton
Andre is the stoic hero type but with actual complexity — he’s a detective through and through, always reading people and notebooks, but also carries ghosts that make him quiet at odd times. He’s principled, strategic, and strangely poetic sometimes, like he’ll solve a moral puzzle and then hum an old tune to himself (which he denies). Loves justice but hates showmanship; will lead a charge without wanting to be applauded for it. Totally someone who’d make a perfect speech and then go sit alone to eat burnt toast because that’s his coping mechanism.
Bennett Knox
Bennett is slippery in the best possible way — charming, soft-spoken, and always just a hair too composed, like he practices his empathy in the mirror. He’s a negotiator, really good at reading the room, but also has this selfish streak that pops up like a bad habit; so you root for him and roll your eyes at him simultaneously. Likes small elegant things — pocket watches? a tidy notebook? — but also messes up relationships with grand gestures that nobody asked for. He’s mysterious in a flirty way, and somehow you feel like he’s both a calming presence and a pending plot twist.
Mr. Wilford
Mr. Wilford is showbiz villain energy but with an oddly paternal soundtrack, like he’ll fix you with a smile and then explain why you needed to be broken first. He’s charismatic, theatrical, and believes absolutely in his own genius, which is inspiring and terrifying depending on which side of the buffet table you’re on. Cultured, manipulative, and prone to theatrical monologues — but also keeps weird little comforts, like a ridiculous fondness for classical records or tying ribbons on spoons, which makes him creepily human. He’s the kind of leader you’d want to listen to once and then regret, in a deliciously complicated way.
Melanie Cavill
Melanie is that person with an even, soothing voice who also has a very complicated moral spreadsheet in her head — extremely competent, deeply lonely, and always three moves ahead. She’s the brain of operations, but don’t expect easy warmth; she’s warm in very specific moments and then cold the rest of the time, which is painfully realistic. Obsessed with systems, schedules, and the right playlist for every emergency, and yet she hoards small kindnesses like someone trying to remember how to be human. Also, she’ll say “I can fix it” and you absolutely believe her, even if you later wish you hadn’t.
