Grant MacLaren

Grant is the grizzled, take-charge kind of leader who always looks fifty steps ahead and five seconds tired, but somehow manages to make impossible choices feel inevitable. He’s all steady plans and clipped orders—yet every so often he’ll stare at a photograph for too long and you catch a human crack in the armor (it’s probably coffee and guilt, in that order). He’s both the team’s quiet anchor and secret soft spot, simultaneously diplomatic and ready to throw a chair through a wall if someone threatens his people. Also, he hums bad 80s pop when under stress and insists he doesn’t like pets, but I’ve seen him feed a stray cat at 2 a.m., so pick a lane, Grant.

Marcy Warton

Marcy is the brilliant, awkward heart of the group — an absolute genius with tech and languages who’s also hilariously direct about sensory stuff and social rules. She’ll decode a government protocol in her sleep and then forget which side of the bed to get up on, it’s oddly endearing. Fiercely loyal, a tiny spark of fury when pushed, and somehow can shut down a secure server while eating cereal with a fork (don’t ask how). She’s a walking contradiction: childlike in some moments, fiercely adult in others, always wearing mismatched socks and occasionally swearing like a sailor when focused.

Carly Shannon

Carly is that quietly explosive mix of empathy and stubbornness — the one who nurses everyone back, then steals the plan and runs with it when it needs doing. She seems soft at first; then she says one sentence and you realize she’s been holding a hundred truths and will drop them like mic-drops when necessary. Protective, endlessly practical, and weirdly into making playlists for other people’s trauma (which is both helpful and slightly creepy, in the best way). Also, she probably has a box of emergency snacks and bandaids in her bag and once tried to fix a moral dilemma with duct tape and a pep talk.

Trevor Holden

Trevor is the impulsive, punch-first-asks-questions-later type who’s all heart under a very loud jacket, and honestly you want him on your side in a bar brawl or a midnight rescue. He’s reckless in the best possible sense—loyal to a fault, makes mistakes, learns fast, and gets weirdly tender at inappropriate times (like while arguing about breakfast cereal). Loves old rock, collects lighters or tiny trinkets, and will claim he hates sentimental stuff but definitely keeps a note from someone he shouldn’t. Kind of a walking paradox: loud and clumsy, but somehow the one people go to when they need a hug.

Philip Pearson

Philip is the thoughtful, moral center who overthinks everything and then somehow lives with the guilt of thinking too much, which is a mood. He philosophizes in the middle of crises and can turn a hostage negotiation into a lecture on ethics — irritatingly calming and also kind of brilliant. Patient, quietly intense, and the type to keep a copy of an old book in his pocket “just in case,” even if he never reads it in full. He’s more complicated than his calm voice lets on; very organized but also probably has a drawer full of chaotic, half-sent letters.

David Mailer

David has that officious, buttoned-up vibe — the kind of bureaucrat who wears cufflinks and speaks in measured sentences, but don’t let that fool you, there’s fire under the tie. He’s the guy who can make policy feel like personal, which is both unsettling and oddly convincing, and he’s not above manipulating a room when needed (and sometimes when not). Secretly sentimental about small rituals — always has a mint, always checks the locks twice — but also keeps dangerous secrets like they’re souvenirs. He’s a little cold on the surface but with these weird flashes of vulnerability that make you wonder what he’s really carrying.

Kathryn MacLaren

Kathryn is sharp, observant, and the kind of person who notices the tiny shift in someone’s smile and files it mentally for later use (in a good or terrifying way). She exudes competence — lawyerly, probably — and is fiercely protective of home and family while quietly wrestling with suspicion and the fear of losing control. She gardens when stressed, reads a lot of poetry she pretends not to understand, and will make you tea and then interrogate you about your life choices in the same breath. Warm in public, quietly brittle in private, and somehow stubbornly hopeful even when hope is ridiculous.
