Meet the characters from Motherland: Fort Salem
Raelle Collar
Raelle is the chaotic heart of the crew — impulsive, stubborn, and somehow impossibly brave. She bails out of rules the moment they pin her down and yet, weirdly, she’ll memorize every single drill order if it means protecting someone she loves. There’s a scrappy optimism under all the sarcasm, and she’s equal parts wounded and hilarious, like someone who keeps a gum wrapper as a sentimental token (don’t ask). She believes in second chances more than common sense, and frankly that’s why she’s so compelling; also she used to cut hair? or was that a rumor — either way she never looks like she slept.
Scylla Ramshorn
Scylla is the deliciously dangerous schemer — polished, brilliant, and capable of cutting someone with a compliment. She moves like a chessmaster; every smile feels like a move, every friendship a plotted advantage, and you just know she reads people like books she can highlight. Cold? Sometimes, but also wildly charismatic in a way that makes you forget to be suspicious until it’s too late (not that you would admit it). Also she probably collects vintage perfume bottles for reasons unknown and will absolutely betray you while sipping tea with perfect posture.
Tally Craven
Tally is the gentle, complicated underdog who sneaks up on you with courage you didn’t expect to exist in someone so soft-spoken. She starts off anxious and unsure, then grows teeth — metaphorical, though honestly sometimes literal in the sense that she can be ferocious when pushed. There’s an almost childlike sincerity in her outlook but also layers of trauma and fierce loyalty that make her unpredictably tough. She carries little notebooks full of scribbles (and maybe grocery lists?) and alternates between humming to herself and full-on staring contests.
Abigail Bellweather
Abigail is the calm center — poised, moral, and the kind of leader who’d organize your life and somehow make it look like a small, tasteful parade. Beneath the politeness is a steel spine and a sense of history; she feels bound to traditions but knows when to bend them, which makes her quietly revolutionary. She cares deeply about people and rules in equal measures, which is confusing but also very effective in a crisis. Also she’ll probably have perfect posture, a tragic family crest, and an oddly excellent collection of cookies she refuses to share.
Anacostia Quartermain
Anacostia is pure fire — loud, uncompromising, and the kind of person who will yell at authority then fix your broken heart in the same breath. She’s stubbornly honorable, with scars to prove it, and has this big-sister energy that’s both comforting and mildly terrifying. Political, sharp-witted, and not above a brutal one-liner, she lives for justice and chaotic good vibes. Also she might hoard jars of hot sauce like treasure and cries at documentaries (or is that just documentaries about saxophonists? I can’t remember).
General Sarah Alder
General Alder is all steel and secrets — daunting, disciplined, and the person you do not want to disappoint unless you really like pain. She sacrifices personal warmth for the greater order but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have a soft, messy core that she hides in drawer after drawer (and occasionally lets out at inconvenient times). Tough strategist, haunted by choices, motherly in a brutal, pruning-rose kind of way, and undeniably magnetic when she gives you that rare small smile. She probably listens to old war-era records and has a weird fondness for bad coffee, don’t tell anyone.
