Meet the characters from Heroes
Noah Bennet
Noah is the gruff, trenchcoat-wearing spine of a lot of the secrecy in Heroes, always three steps ahead and suspicious of everything (and everyone). He’s the kind of dad who will make you wear a helmet and also secretly keep a box of comic books under his bed — I swear I saw that once, or maybe it was a cereal box, who knows. Practical, ruthless when he has to be, but with these tiny, weird moments of softness that sneak out only around Claire or a particularly touching dad-joke. He works in the shadows and will absolutely lie to your face while thinking he’s protecting you; honestly, complicated and kind of tragic in the best way.
Claire Bennet
Claire is sunshine and scars: the high school cheerleader with regeneration powers who somehow makes survival into an artform. She’s brave and stubborn and way more moral than the world deserves — also she collects embarrassing yearbook photos, don’t ask why. Naive at times, but when it matters she steps up like the world’s favorite “nope, you die” machine, and there’s this weird mix of teenage drama and ancient responsibility about her. She’s the heart of the show, really, even when she’s rolling her eyes at everyone.
Peter Petrelli
Peter is a big soft, idealistic sponge who absorbs other people’s powers and emotions and trouble like it’s his job (which it kind of is). He believes in saving everyone — sometimes to his own detriment — and flails adorably when metaphysical things get complicated, which is often. Empathetic to a fault, occasionally clumsy with details, and dramatic in a good way; he might quote a movie line at the wrong time and mean it. Also, I have this mental image of him always carrying an extra coffee thermos, for reasons.
Hiro Nakamura
Hiro is pure, joyful, slightly dramatic time-warping goodness — a guy who enunciates destiny and says “Yatta!” like it’s a battle cry. He loves samurai movies, comic books, and the idea that one brave person can change everything, which, honestly, is infectious. Sometimes he’s ridiculously earnest (to the point of being clumsy), and other times he’s this unexpectedly strategic genius when history’s on the line. Also rumor has it he owns more swords than shoes, not that it matters.
Mohinder Suresh
Mohinder starts as the earnest scientist trying to finish his father’s work and then spirals into every possible ethical dilemma you can imagine — brilliant, curious, and increasingly frazzled. He’s the notebook-carrying, lab-coat kind of guy who will rant about genetics and then show you a cat video because stress management is a thing. Morally grey-ish at times, sometimes heroic, sometimes… experimental in ways you’d raise an eyebrow at, and always driven by a mix of guilt and responsibility. He wears bowties in my head; maybe that’s romanticizing it, but I like the idea.
Matt Parkman
Matt is the cop-next-door turned telepath who uses his power like a blunt instrument and with surprisingly tender instincts. He’s grumpy, protective, and hilariously prone to internal monologues that you just know he’d never admit aloud — sometimes he’s all business, sometimes he lets his emotional floodgates open, and both are very valid. He gets mad and then instantly apologizes; it’s oddly charming and makes him feel real. Also, he probably has a playlist of moody songs that he refuses to share.
Ando Masahashi
Ando is the best friend we all wish we had: sarcastic, loyal, unexpectedly brave and also the emotional battery for other people (literally later, but you know that). He starts as sidekick-level supportive and then blossoms into his own chaotic, awesome person who knows how to call someone out with perfect timing. He’s got a sharp sense of humor, a streak of stubbornness, and this adorable habit of chewing on the end of pens when he’s nervous — or was that a spoon? Either way.
Nathan Petrelli
Nathan is polished, ambitious, and very good at giving speeches while pretending everything is fine; there’s this skyscraper-of-a-man thing about him. Politician by trade, complicated brother by blood, he’s the sort of person who will hide things behind a tie and smile until it cracks, and then still try to look Presidential. Stoic often, but with surprising fragility when the mask slips — cinematic and frustrating in equal measures. He probably has a perfect suit for every mood, though that might be an exaggeration.
Sylar
Sylar is the deliciously terrifying, curious predator of power who makes you nervous just by looking at him — brilliant, methodical, and creepy in a very stylish way. He’s fixated on understanding how things work (brains included), and that obsession is terrifyingly human, if also morally horrifying. There are glimpses of someone who could be redeemed or who remembers being vulnerable, which is the worst part because it makes him sympathetic sometimes, ugh. He’s like a broken watch that still keeps people awake at night.
Niki Sanders
Niki is a whirlwind, raw and protective and full of contradictions — a fighter with a fierce maternal streak and a set of survival instincts that could power a small country. She’s tough, sometimes reckless, and also carries a hidden softness that pops out in the weirdest moments, like when she hums to herself during bad traffic. Split personalities make her unpredictable (obviously), which is scary and heartbreaking and, honestly, riveting TV. She’s someone who could throw you across a room and then make you tea five minutes later; that’s the vibe.
Angela Petrelli
Angela is the puppetmaster matriarch with prophetic dreams and a tendency to speak like she’s reading from an ancient rulebook — manipulative, wise, and oddly maternal even when she’s scheming. She remembers more about the family than they do and will guilt-trip you into doing the right (or her) thing with terrifying finesse. There’s this cold calm about her that melts into vulnerability on occasion, which is when you realize she’s been carrying the worst kinds of knowledge alone. Also, she probably knits while planning world events, and I love that image.
